Welcome to the inagural edition of a new Galleywinter feature called “Up and Comer” The main purpose of this monthly feature is to get information as well as the music of an “Up and Comer” out to Galleywinter members. We realize there are several artists and bands out there trying to make it. This is mainly to highlight the talents of those who are new and/or little known on the scene. If you have an idea for the “Up and Comer” series please contact Blam-o via PM.
With that said, our first “Up and Comer” got his musical background in Virginia. With a what seems like a hint of deja vu, his sound has a sense of familiarity although it is completely unique. Decidedly not your normal college aged dancehall band, Drew Kennedy recently moved to Texas from Pennsylvania with his newlywed wife. Touring up and down the east coast for years, and having lived in Texas before, it seems as if the great state of Texas has gotten the best of him once again.
Drew Kennedy was invited to play with Pat Green years ago. As the years progressed as well as his own true brand of songwriting, he has shared the stage with Cross Canadian Ragweed, Wade Bowen and West 84, Jason Allen, Peter Dawson Band and many more along the way.
Speaking of Peter Dawson, and with the input of Jason Boland, Drew co-wrote the song “Travis County Heartbreak.” Currently, Drew Kennedy can be heard acoutically with Peter Dawson most Tuesdays at River Road Ice House. This no cover, half priced drinks all night show is beginning to pick up steam. With all the other talented artists in and around the New Braunfels area on any given night, surprise guest sometimes and often do, show up unannounced. For more dates where Drew Kennedy can be seen live, check his website at www.drewkennedymusic.com
Also available on his website or through www.lonestarmusic.com (online or at the LSM retail location in Gruene, TX) is his album “Hillbilly Pilgrim.” While words, metaphors and other descriptions can help paint a picture of his music, his unique sound speaks for itself. Which is exactly why Drew Kennedy has genrously provided Galleywinter with four of the seven songs on his debut album, “Hillbilly Pilgrim.” Download them from our Downloads section, share them with your friends, spread the love, see the shows and feel free to discuss Drew Kennedy in our forums.
