The Chart Problem

With news that ANOTHER Texas radio chart is launching it leads to, with admitted ignorance, several questions.

-How relevant are these things? Artists such as Bingham, American Aquarium, Hayes Carll and countless others have carved out super successful careers without the aid of widespread radio.

-Radio does help new artists get booked. And it does provide a big industry circle jerk of radio+promoter+artist+agent+venue+festival=fans/$$.

-As millennials and the next generation come to more prominence, traditional spins will decrease as streaming goes up. Then what?

-Despite the abilities that are out there to skew numbers, shouldn’t we be paying more attention to things like stream numbers from Spotify/Apple Music, YouTube etc?

-Despite their decreased volume, sales numbers are usually a very viable means of tracking a band’s success.

Thoughts?
