Staggering Sales

Esteemed country music journalist Grady Smith released some truly staggering sales numbers on Twitter last night.  There was no source provided, but Smith is as good as they come.  We have reproduced his list of total album sales below.  It’s impressive and intriguing.

Sturgill Simpson – 151K

Kacey Musgraves – 127K

Willie Nelson/Merle Haggard – 106K

Jason Isbell – 97K

Chris Stapleton – 88K

There’s been much debate about sales vs streaming and where is the music business headed. We trust that people will still buy a physical product if it’s something they believe in.  These numbers seem to back that up.  The only artist on that list that has received even nominal radio airplay is Kacey Musgraves, and she’s being outsold by Sturgill.  How cool is that?  Great music will always find a way into our ears, and for that we should all be thankful.
