River Jam Artist Preview: K Phillips

K Phillips came out of seemingly nowhere to deliver one of the finest debut albums in the history of this scene with 2012’s American Girls .  A striking collection of songs that would be quite the accomplishment for a veteran songwriter, let alone a debut album.  Phillips followed that up with some scene stealing performances at Steamboat, SXSW, Greenfest and other large stages.  Phillips’ music is a menagerie of styles, sounds and vibes.  Elements of honky-tonk mingle with soul and rock meets folk as Phillips and his deftly able band knock each song into a different realm.  As a performer, Phillips is a firebrand preaching revivalist determined to get the crowd on their feet and interacting.  You never quite know where he will take you next, and that’s part of the appeal.  All the buzz caught the ear of Adam Duritz from Counting Crows fame leading to a nationwide tour alongside Rob Thomas that took K along for the ride. He’s become a national act, and recently released his fantastic second album, Dirty Wonder. Come see what this wild man and his buzz is all about at River Jam.

Performance date/time:  Sat July 29 at River Road Icehouse.  Approx 7PM.
