The past few months have certainly been a whirlwind of loss in the music legends category. We’ve lost giants. And all in the same time frame of grief. It’d be cool if a few of our certified genius legends could hang on this rock a little longer. Prince was a musician’s musician with enough pop sense to become a worldwide phenomenon. Influential across all genres. A wicked songwriter and arranger. A guitar magician. And one of the coolest dudes to ever walk the planet. I’ve seen few entertainment deaths reverberate as widely as his. I heard the news the moment I pulled our RV into the LJT grounds and it hit me just as hard as The Hag or Scott Weiland…maybe harder. I was never a Prince fanatic but I always appreciated him and he was a huge part of my upbringing. His Lovesexy album cover was the first one I remember being covered in black plastic at the record store. His songs an all too familiar soundtrack. I’ll never forget how cool my dad thought it was that he actually wrote “1999” while dreaming. Prince Rogers Nelson was a pop music master…and a bona fide musical genius. RIP Prince. Below are some of the more profound covers that have accumulated over the years in our scene of music.
