LJT 23 Must See’s

At LJTs, there is music going on somewhere just about 24 hours a day. We try to hit as much as we can, but here are some suggestions of sets we will definitely be catching. Tue April 26

For those lucky enough to be starting their festival experience on Tuesday, the in the round songwriter showcase featuring Radney Foster, Matt Martindale, Deryl Dodd, Dave Perez of Tejas Brothers and LJT himself is a must see. Wed April 27

Pat Green-Mainstage approx 10PM. Pat returns to the LJT stage for the first time since 2000! 2 of the best shows I’ve ever seen Pat play were at LJTs in 1999 and 2000. I expect him to bring it with a level of intensity we haven’t seen from him in some years as he’s returned home.

Turnpike Troubadours-Mainstage approx 3PM. Over the past year the Troubadours have become the most buzzed about band in the scene. They played Greenfest last year and blew us away, which put us squarely on their bandwagon. It helps that they’ve released one of the best albums to come from this scene in the past 5 years. Hear them play tunes from it and some new gems too. Thur Apr 28

Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis-Acoustic stage approx 4PM. They’re both supremely talented in their own rights, but when paired together this husband and wife team own just about any setting they are put in. I expect them to be the talk of the acoustic tent after this set.

The Departed-Mainstage approx 7PM. Cody Canada returns to LJTs with his new band and it will be thousands of people’s first glimpse at what they’re bringing to the table. Despite having stellar bands hitting the stage after them, I have a feeling this will be one of the most buzzed about sets of the week.

Chris Knight-Acoustic stage approx 4PM. Knight is an enigma. He’s one of the best songwriter’s working today. His sets at LJTs have always been memorable. He’s the last act on the acoustic stage on this day and you better get there early if you want a decent spot to see the show. I suggest stocking up, taking your chair and arriving during Ryan Beaver’s set around 1PM and taking the whole afternoon in.

Reckless Kelly-Mainstage approx 10PM. Reckless Kelly is the most consistent band in this scene. The energy they bring to LJTs is almost unmatched. These Braun boys just about burn the stage down every year and whip the crowd into a rowdy frenzy each time.

Sat Apr 30 Ray Wylie Hubbard-Acoustic stage approx 2PM. The Wylie Lama arrives to add some greasy, rootsy, bluesy, foot-stompin’ music into the mix. Certain to set your groove just right for the last night of the festival.

Tejas Brothers-mainstage approx 5PM. The Tejas Brothers are now in the coveted Rusty Wier performance slot on Saturday afternoon. These guys are perhaps the best showmen in Texas. They are guaranteed to make you have a good time and will provide just the right pick me up for your last night.

Keep in mind that these are just suggestions and we’ll be attending just about every set. These are just some we feel you shouldn’t miss if you can help it.

Also, remember that each night some of the best music you can hear will be found at campsites. Due to the burn ban there will not be any campfires to pick around…but we’ve dealt with that before. One spot you should check out, shameless plug aside, is the Red7/Galleywinter acoustic stage directly across from the official acoustic stage. We will be having artists perform unplugged each night after the mainstage shuts down at approximately midnight. Stop on by.
