Brad’s Corner is a monthly commentary written by Brad about whatever he feels like. It’s supposed to be funny, interesting and thought provoking, but most geniuses are misunderstood. Check out the July 2006 edition of Brad’s Corner and see what’s on his mind.
So we ventured to Jefferson, Texas for a wedding this past weekend. My best friend was getting married there and I was the best man. Since he has lived there for several years now, I’ve had the occassion to visit several times. On the surface it seems like a normal small east Texas town, yet you’d be sadly mistaken. Rumor has it that the town is the most haunted town in America and judging by the lacking small-town hospitality, something’s definitely haunted. And I’d be inclined to believe the only thing that’s haunted are the manners and politeness of the city’s resident’s. The point of this month’s article is not to bash Jefferson, it just brought to light growing lack of manners in this country. The topic has been broached many times before by sociologists and historians much smarter than I. I’m afraid we’re headed toward a future in about twenty years where the majority of kids will look, act and grow up to resemble Kevin Federline. I love hip-hop music, but the culture of it has permeated our society to the point where it’s not uncommon to see baggy pants or shorts and a cap cocked sideways on 9 out of 10 people you cross. The bling-bling show-off, me first attitude is present at youth athletic events, kids tv shows, at the store and behind the counter at your favorite fast food joint. Fake diamond studs in each ear, white t-shirts that look like they borrowed them from Andre the Giant’s undershirt drawer and foil in their teeth to give the presentation of grillz. It’s not just African-Americans either. In fact, it could be more prevalent with white kids in the suburbs who have long eaten up black culture faster than blacks themselves. Just ask Elvis, he is still alive you know. As a kid, I’d listen to N.W.A. and 2 Live Crew with my friends and laugh and fantasize about being a gangster on the mean streets of Compton or a lothario in Miami Beach. However, that’s where it ended…as a fantasy. Today’s youth seem determined to act out their fantasies at alarming rates. Hopefully Texas Music will be the next big fad to spread like wildfire when kids outside of Texas realize that Cross Canadian Ragweed just may be the coolest band since Zeppelin.
-Minor Chords:
-Still waiting for an album to come out that’s as good background party music from track 1 to the last track as Back in Black.
-The reason this month’s column was so short is that we’re headed to PV for our honeymoon in a couple days…you’re jealous I know. Looking forward to doing the Pirates of the Carribean type booze cruise one of the nights. As long as I don’t run into a Kiera Knightley type anorexcising.
-July 4th was a bummer this year. We needed the rain, just not on the 4th. Oh well…that’s the breaks.
-Dirk Nowitski showed up to Ryan Turner’s show at Woody’s this past weekend. I don’t know if that’s good news or bad news for Ryan considering that Dirk’s favorite singer is David Hasselhoff.
-Even though he was the first and only artist to get banned from our site, Mike McClure is still the funniest blogger I know. Check out his rambles on his website. The one about the hotel housekeepers is golden.
-Why couldn’t it have been Richie Brown that got banned? Not my decision on that one.
-Trace Adkins is continuing his downward slide to poo. Wasting one of the best voices in the industry on schlock like “Swing” and “Badonkandunk” is ridiculous. He should at least be striving to cut great songs like “Who’s Your Daddy?”
-This month’s reccomended movie is: Grizzly Man. The stirring documentary of a washed up actor who just happens to be a drug addict who is trying to re-invent himself as a nature show host/grizzly bear “expert”. It’s highly unintentionally hilarious.
-This month’s reccommended album is: Darren Kozelsky “Let Your Mind Fly”. Darren has the most pure voice I’ve heard since the first time I heard Josh Grider’s. Pick up this disc, it was produced by McClure and is a great country record.
-Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most.-Mark Twain
