The Randy Rogers Band is hosting a 2 day medley of concerts and activities in Luckenbach’s “step back in time” surroundings, all “For The Sake of The Song.” Friday, April 21st and Saturday April 22nd, this unique 2 day event combines a staggering lineup with an array of activities that offer something for everyone. There will be music beyond your sonic expectations, as well as a songwriter workshop, a screening of the recent Townes Van Zandt documentary ‘Be Here To Love Me’, Texas 42 Domino and washer tournaments, and more to boot.
They say “Everybody’s Somebody in Luckenbach,” the mystic community made famous in Willie Nelson and Waylon Jenning’s 1977 hit, “Luckenbach Texas.” If you haven’t yet become an official “somebody,” this is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to re-create the true musical ambiance and roots of the famed village venue.
Friday’s Luckenbach Dancehall activities include a songwriter workshop, a film presentation of ‘Townes Van Zandt, Be Here To Love Me’(a film by Margaret Brown), a presentation of Luckenbach’s short film ‘Back To The Basics,’ followed by acoustic performances by Randy Rogers, Kent Finlay, Gary Nicholson, Radney Foster and possible special guests.
Saturday the Luckenbach Grounds become the friendliest competitive arena for Washer and Texas 42 Domino tournaments, Hondo’s famed “one hole” world champion golf tournament, and full band performances by the Sidehill Gougers, Full Throttle, Ray Wylie Hubbard and the Randy Rogers Band. Daily tickets are available for Friday and Saturday’s festivities as well as 2 day weekend passes.
Standing firmly as the pinnacle symbol of the Hill Country’s musical roots, prepare to be overcome by the historical backdrop that Luckenbach provides. Add a zealous crowd that upholds the tradition of great music and good times, plenty of what the area’s German tradition refers to as “liquid bread,” and it echoes of Luckenbach’s Picnic era.
THE RANDY ROGERS BAND Steeped in the Texas singer-songwriter tradition and fostered by years of incessant touring, the Randy Rogers Band has grown into a widespread phenomenon all its own. Now performing at famed venues with legendary acts, The Randy Rogers Band has gained extensive praise, acclaim, and airplay for their brand of amped up country. In the creation of their latest album, Rollercoaster, the band brought in one of Rogers’ heroes, Radney Foster, who produced the red hot release that garnered even more attention for this frontrunner act. With the recent recording of Rogers’ “Somebody Take Me Home” by mainstream giant Kenny Chesney, this young tunesmith and his charismatic band are primed to carry their increasingly huge fan following with them all the way to the top.
