{Face the Music} October 19, 2005

Hello again my friends, it’s the newest edition of Face the Music – the weekly article that highlights a few shows from the past week, provides you with a heads up for CD releases, updates you with life events for band members and the Galleywinter family, and gives you a glimpse of upcoming events in the Texas/Red Dirt Music scene. Check back each week to keep up with the dirt in and around the scene!

Shows in Review: Last Sunday’s Big O Benefit at George’s Bar was a great success! The show raised money for the American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts. You can read all about it here!

The Big O Benefit Also on Sunday, Stoney LaRue and Bleu Edmondson performed acoustically for the Houston folks. And anytime you can see these guys together, it’s definitely not your average show. By the end of the night you can’t help but laugh as it usually turns into comedy hour before too long…

Upcoming Events: Aaron Watson is scheduled to play three shows this month with BNA recording artist Lonestar. You can see Aaron opening for Lonestar TONIGHT at the Midnight Rodeo in Austin.

Aaron Watson Cory Morrow’s new CD Nothing Left to Hide is featured this week on AmericanaRoots.com. You can see the Cory Morrow Band this week in Witchita Falls, San Angelo, Austin and at the Ziegenbock Fest in Spring.

The Mike McClure Band CD release parties continue this week. You can hear songs from their new CD Camelot Falling live in Stephenville, Lubbock and Amarillo!

Stoney Larue and The Lost Trailers are teaming up in Oklahoma City this Friday night for a show at the Wormy Dog Saloon. On Saturday, the Trailers are heading down to Dallas for TWO afternoon show at the State Fair of Texas! For more information visit Bigtex.com

Also on Saturday, The Eli Young Band and Cooder Graw are the featured entertainers at the 2nd Annual Texas Stampede State Championship Barbeque Cook-Off in Dallas. Gates open at noon; get there early for a day of great food and great music!

The Mike Mancy Band would like everyone to come out to Adairs Saloon in Dallas on Saturday night. They will be featuring some new songs as well as hosting some very special guests! The 3rd Annual Zeigenbock Festival is being held this Saturday in Old Town Spring. This FREE show includes performances by Kevin Fowler, Jack Ingram, Corry Morrow, Roger Creager, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers Band, Honeybrowne, Phil Pritchett, Micky & the Motorcars & Josh Owen. The Clubhouse Concert Series at the White Elephant Saloon continues this week the Matt Powell, Bonnie Bishop and Josh Grider. If you’re in the Ft. Worth area on Sunday, head over to the Stockyards to see Miss Joni and the Clubhouse Girls.

CD Releases: The Eric Brendan Band officially released their CD this week and they are celebrating over the next couple of weeks. Check out the CD Release Parties or check it out on www.lonestarmusic.com. The Dirt: Congratulations to Galleywinter members Mandible & Littlegirl. Both are expecting their first child next Spring.

And congrats to Danny and Jesselynn – looks like we have another Galleywinter wedding in the works! They got engaged at the end of September!

We have a new featured artist this week, and he’s one you certainly don’t want to miss! Check out Ryan Turner anytime you get the chance! And check out his recently released album, Rollin’ Up My Sleeves, as well – it’s in the player on the main Galleywinter home page. There is also a contest going on in the Texas Singer/Songwriter forum where you can win a CD and a t-shirt! Just for fun: Just a few links to point you in the direction of additional resources or cool threads – on Galleywinter and beyond… A thread was started recently that makes you think about the live shows that have had a significant impact on your life. It’s fun to hear about the wide array of artists and experiences. Check it out!

Do you wish more of the Texas/Red Dirt were available for download online? Recently a site was launched that makes that very thing possible. Check out www.ourtracks.com – you can download entire albums, or just single songs. And they even have some out of print albums available as well!
