1,000 Miles from the Boohatch

There is a little place in Oklahoma that is becoming semi-legendary for producing some of the best music in the Texas and Red Dirt music scene over the past few years. A familiar tale has unfolded twice now. A band on the cusp makes their way into the Boohatch, Mike McClure’s basement studio, and they come out with an album that catapults them to the next level; a feat previously accomplished by bothe The Turnpike Troubadours and The Damn Quails. Could Stillwater, Oklahoma’s Chad Sullins and The Last Call Coalition be the next band to do so? If the first single from their upcoming release Wicked Spell is any indication, all signs point to yes.

A band often told they are too rock and roll to play in country bars and too country for rock bars, took to the studio to prove wrong all the people that said they couldn’t make country music. Produced by Mike McClure, mixed and mastered by Joe Hardy, and featuring contributions from Jon Knudson of The Damn Quails and Texas music icon Lloyd Maines, Wicked Spell may have been steered toward a more country sound than previous releases, but rest assured that the bands distinctive rocking spirit remains unscathed.

The band is looking at an early February release for Wicked Spell and we have been given the first look at the first single off of the album titled “A Couple 1000 Miles”.

Whether Chad Sullins and LCC can continue the success of other bands that have ventured into the Boohatch with Mike McClure is yet to be seen, but “Couple 1000 Miles” has seemingly set them on the right path and given them a good start.
