There are friendships in this scene and then there are lifelines. The kind that aren’t built on convenience or hype, but forged in miles and music. That’s what Wade Bowen and Cody Canada share.
For over two decades, these two have walked side by side through the chaos of the music business. Ragweed kicking down every door in sight. Wade quietly building something just as meaningful, a catalog of songs that put honesty ahead of everything else. Each with a reputation for loyalty, hard work and mentoring other songwriters.
Somewhere along the way, they became brothers. Not just collaborators. Not just tourmates. Brothers. Marrying sisters will have that effect, but so will walking through the fire together.
Wade and Cody’s bond is more than two guys who get along. It’s foundational to the culture of the whole Texas/Red Dirt music family. Cody is the compass. Wade is the glue. Canada points the direction and vibe of the scene, Wade keeps all the pieces together.
We have called Wade “the glue” of the scene before and it sticks for a reason (pun partially intended). He’s the one who shows up. The one who listens. The one who co-writes when you’re stuck, celebrates when you’re up and checks on you when you’re down. The first to join your benefit concert. A friend to all. A mentor to many. A sounding board when the noise gets too loud. He’s stood shoulder to shoulder with Ragweed, Reckless, Randy and every new wave of kids coming up. And in each case, he’s been the steady hand holding it all together.
Cody knows it. Ask him. He’ll tell you. Wade isn’t just a friend or brother in law. He's someone he’s leaned on in the dark moments, someone who knows the weight of what Ragweed carried and someone who’s never let him walk alone.
That’s why Wade’s role in this Ragweed weekend matters so much. This isn’t just another gig. This is Wade Bowen standing in his hometown of Waco welcoming Ragweed back into the Texas spotlight.
When Cody needed a brother, Wade was there. When Wade needed direction, Cody pointed north. Now they get to stand on the same stage again, not as two acts on a bill, but as proof that this whole crazy cool experience has been built on more than guitars and beer joints. It’s built on bonds and relationships.
The Ragweed Texas weekend isn’t just nostalgia. It’s a reminder of what this scene has always been at its best...a community that looks out for its own. And nobody embodies that more than Wade Bowen or Cody Canada. The glue. The compass. Together they’ve helped hold this scene steady through every storm.
