Welcome to the premiere edition of Face the Music! This weekly article will highlight a few shows from the past week, provide you with a heads up for CD releases, update you with life events for band members and the Galleywinter family, and give you a glimpse of upcoming events in the Texas Music scene. For those of you that even remember Rewind (yes, think WAY back), it’s kinda like that, but on a more regular basis, and in a much more digestible format. So make sure to check back each week to keep up with the dirt in and around the scene!
Shows in Review: Cross Canadian Ragweed hosted the 2nd Annual Family Jam in Oklahoma City on September 23rd. This show featured Gary Allan, Dierks Bentley, Randy Rogers Band, Stoney LaRue and of course, Cross Canadian Ragweed. The most comprehensive review of the event can be found here.
Galleywinter featured artist, the Mike McClure Band, celebrated the release of their new CD Camelot Falling with a release party at the Iron Horse Pub in Wichita Falls this past Saturday night.
The Austin Federation of Musicians hosted a benefit concert on Monday night at Hills Cafe in Austin. Music from the Heart, hosted by Kinky Friedman, showcased many Galleywinter favorites like Ray Wylie Hubbard, Honeybrowne, Walt Wilkins, Wade Bowen & Django Walker. Two special guests, Pat Green & Cory Morrow, were added to the bill the morning of the show. It was a great show for a great cause!
Upcoming Events: Lost Hotel, the long awaited CD from Wade Bowen & West 84 is almost here! Wade and the band are holding listening parties all over Texas in the next few weeks to give fans a preview of the album. If you can’t make it to one of he listening parties, you can still get a preview by seeing Wade and the band in Liberty, College Station & Waco this week.
If you’re in the Houston area, head over to the Sidecar Pub on Thursday night for a free Bleu Edmondson show. That’s right F-R-E-E. You can find more information on the show in Bleu’s forum.
The Lost Trailers, are proud to announce their signing with BNA records of The RCA Label Group. BNA will release the upcoming Lost Trailers album, due out in early 2006. The Trailers have been working hard to finish the new album by December. In the meantime they have 3 shows scheduled in Texas this week, the first being in Stephenville on Thursday, at the world famous Billy Bob’s Texas on Friday, and in San Angelo on Saturday with Galleywinter favorites Cross Canadian Ragweed.
Jason Boland and Stoney Larue are playing this Friday night at the Firehouse. From the talk in the forums, it sounds like there will be a lot of Galleyfolk in attendance. This show is not to be missed!
The Clubhouse Concert Series at the White Elephant Saloon continues this week with Walt Wilkins and Sam Baker. Head over to the Stockyards for a night of dinner and music hosted by the Clubhouse Girls.
Cross Canadian Ragweed are set to release their new CD Garage on October 4th. They have four CD release parties in cities beginning October 3rd. Check out the link to find the one nearest you!
CD Releases: Billy Joe Shaver released a CD titled The Real Deal to much acclaim last week. And with perfect timing, Brad completed his infamous 20 ?’s interview with the legend as well – be sure to check it out!
Ryan Turner has released his long anticipated album Rollin’ Up My Sleeves, and it has received much praise from those who have it. It is definitely one of the must haves of the year.
Coming out next Tuesday, September 27th are new albums from Steve Earle, Ryan Adams and Rusty Wier – all of whom are favorites among the Galley community.
The Dirt: Ah, the love, the love. While Galleywinter is known as the #1 online source for Texas/Red Dirt Music, it has also led to a few marriages along the way. Latest in that line are Jocelyn and Clay who were married in Collinsville, TX on September 17th! Best wishes guys!
And after the weddings, the next in line are the babies…
Congrats to Jenn (missourimama) who welcomed her long-awaited little girl, Lilia (Lily) Grace to the world on Friday, September 23rd. Continued prayers go out as Lily is working to gain strength and join her mama at home.
Steve Rice of No Justice, and his wife Kim are the happy parents of Jaeley Joe– and Steve has turned into quite a proud papa…
And last but not least, Eric Andrews, the fiddle player for Aaron Watson, also welcomed his little boy, Ethan Lane , on Sunday, September 18th.
