Today in Music
One day like today...
1954
Elvis Presley steps into a recording studio for the first time, backed by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, recorded three songs at the Sun Records studio in Memphis. Two of the tunes, "That's All Right" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky," were released as Presley's first record. Both sides were local hits in the Memphis area.

1975
Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love" goes to #1.

1994
Hootie and the Blowfish released their major-label debut, "Cracked Rear View." The album took almost a year to make it to number one on the Billboard chart, and when it did, it knocked Michael Jackson's "HIStory" from the top spot. By mid-1996, "Cracked Rear View" had sold more than 13 million copies in the US, becoming one of the most successful debut albums ever.

1997
The first annual Lilith Fair, the all-female pop festival tour, kicked off at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. Organized by Sarah McLachlan, the tour was one of the year's most successful. Others on the bill included Suzanne Vega, Paula Cole and Jewel.

1944
Robbie Robertson, guitarist and pricncipal songwriter with the Band, was born in Toronto. First known as The Hawks, The Band began playin in Ontario until they moved to the US in 1965, where they became Bob Dylan's backup group. They continued to tour with Dylan until 1974, but at the same time launched a successful career of their own. The Band had a series of hit LP's and singles and performed at most of the major rock festivals, including Woodstock in 1969. The Band played its last concert in 1976. The event, attended by a host of rock and blues performers, was captured on film as "The Last Waltz." Their biggest hit, "The Weight" is covered by a number of Texas/Red Dirt artists.

Just the fine print:

Don't get on here and namecall or be a jerk. We're here to promote our brand of Texas/Red Dirt Music and in the process develop some awesome friendships. If you're not down with that and you enjoy 7th grade namecalling or constant negativity then go to some PlayStation Forum and argue with somebody about who stayed up past their bedtime. Continual personal attacks on artists and members here won't be tolerated.

Also this website was not created as a place to vent your frustrations on people or to be a personal Blog. It is a Texas Music Site. We have a General Discussion and feel free to talk about whatever you want but please save the snide remarks for your email or whatever. Remember, that while Galleywinter is a public place, this website is personal property, much like my own house. If you come in my house and act like an idiot, I'm gonna ask you to leave. The same thing applies here. We do the best we can to allow everyone to say what they want, but somebody has to draw the line, sometime.

Play it Loud and Support Live Music,
Team Galleywinter
