So as we all head into the last batch of Summer fun and into the month of September, it takes us to another month of some new cool music to introduce to you. Check out these tracks on the Galleywinter music player, and of course not only these songs and albums, but great new music can always been heard at www.mandatoryfm.com So when you are tired of the cookie cutter crap, then take a chance and load your ears up with some unknown gems.
Here's my pick for the Top 10 songs for the month of September in no particular order:

1. Josh Grider "Great Divide" -- Album "Sweet Road To Ride"
It's another amazing project from Josh Grider. As expected, Josh continues to take us on a musical journey with everything he does. I'm always surprised at the twists and turns that Josh can take with his music and each time it's something fresh and groundbreaking. The new album from Josh actually won't hit the store shelves until October 6th, but when it's cool, why wait to share it. This is going to be the first release that you'll be hearing on your favorite radio stations.
2. Cross Canadian Ragweed "Overtable" -- Album "Happiness And All The Other Things:
15 years and the boys still have it. I honestly think this is the best album the Ragweed boys have put out in a while. Really proud of them on this one. Great production as well by the prodouchebag Mike McClure. Mike told me that they had a lot of fun doing this album in California, and it totally comes through on this new record.
3. Joey Green "Natchitoches Blues" -- Album "Whatever Lady?!"
Joey is one of those guys that I've watched grow and develop musically for quite a few years now. He started off doing things that a young guy usually does when starting out in this scene, which is pretty much trying to sound like everybody else. Yeah, he was doing that "Texas Country" thing, which, if you've heard Joey, you understand that is not what he needs to be doing. Mixing a bit of Pop, Rock and even a tad of country, Joey Green gives you this totally different, yet amazingly unique sound. His latest album "Whatever Lady?!" is a perfect example of that. This album could easily be played on three different radio formats.
4. Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers - "My Old Man" -- Album "The Bear"
Here's one from the Americana side of things. Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers are from Massachusetts, where all good music comes from right? Really cool vibe about them. Almost reminds me of The Band Of Heathens, or, well, The Band. Fantastic harmonies also with this band. Really dig them.
5. Reverend Horton Heat - "Oh God/Doesn't Work In Vegas" -- Album "Laughin' & Cryin'"
The greatest rock-country-punkabilly group of this generation, Reverend Horton Heat is back with a new album. This album has been described as leaning more towards the "billy" side of rockabilly. Really fun album, great hooks, amazing guitar work as always, and something that should always spin during your party.
6. Mike Zito - "One Step At A Time" -- Album "Pearl River"
Primarily a straight up rockin' blues musician, Mike Zito is one of the few guys actually keeping blues music going. Seems like more and more everyday the blues scene gets smaller, so it's really nice to find a guy continuing that tradition. Big fan of the blues here, and if you are as well, I think you'll dig this one. Funny thing is, we know the blues are cool, but, on this track I wanted to highlight the very soulful side of what Mike Zito can do. The track by the way features Anders Osborne on vocals as well.
7. Chris Smither - "I Told You So" -- Album "Time Stands Still"
If you are looking for something simple that is just "background music", then Chris Smither is not for you. Chris writes words that make you think, and I mean, REALLY think. He's one of those songwriters (like Guy Clark) that can make you change your perception of what a song is about each and every time you listen. He's one of those rare songwriters that seem to capture your mood, no matter what mood you might actually be in that day. It's an amazing talent, and one that needs to be shared.
8. Will Hoge -- "Just Like Me" -- Album "The Wreckage"
I've said it before, but Will Hoge can rip your heart out and stomp on it in one song and then totally revive your broken soul in the next tune. Guy totally blows me away with his standing on the edge of the cliff emotion. It's a fine line sometimes between love and giving it all up, and Will walks that line constantly in his music. This is the first album released since a wreck nearly took the life of the amazing Nashville Americana artist and you can hear the pain and suffering he went through in this album.
9. Jason Eady - "God Fearing Blues" -- Album "When The Money's All Gone"
Another fantastic album from Jason Eady. On this new album, he assembled an all-star cast of players and singers, including The Band Of Heathens, Kelley Mickwee (The Trishas), Kevin Welch (who also produced the album), Joel Guzman and many more. Soulful, insightful and an incredible voice. Jason Eady is the real deal and needs to finally be recognized by the masses
10. Tom Gillam - "Real Thing" -- Album "Had Enough?"
On his latest album, adding to his regular backing band "Tractor Pull", he has former Alejandro Escovedo band members Al Durham (guitar) ,Michael "Cornbread" Trailor (Bassguitar) and drummer Vicente Rodruigez which gives the album a really cool Texas-Rock feel. Great songwriter, and a singer with great emotion in his voice. Recently signed to the Smith Music Group, this might finally be the album that gets Tom popular on a national level.
