June 8th through June 10th will be a special time in New Braunfels. Two premiere music festivals are going on simultaneously. Radio Free Texas is having their Rowdy Float Trip featuring Adam Hood, Billy Joe Shaver, Brandon \Rhyder, Walt Wilkins and many others. Just down River Road a ways you will find the Randy Rogers Band For the Sake of the Song Festival produced by Dickson Productions and showcasing RRB, Bruce Robison, Wade Bowen, Dub Miller, Brandon Rhyder, The Gougers, and Max Stalling among others.

Both events are about moe than putting on a cool concert. They each have unique festival opportunities for fans and artists alike. The RRB Festival is putting on a songwriting clinic with Gary Nicholson, Robison, Rogers, Kent Finlay and Stalling that promises to be the coolest acoustic show that happens this summer. During this seminar set-up, the songwriters will tell the stories behind the songs, explain their songwriting process, and give advice to young singer/songwriters. On Saturday, the Sake Festival gets into rock n' roll mode with full band sets from RRB, Bowen, Rhyder and others. In addition to a float trip, horse shoe tourneys, and campfire jam sessions. The weekend concludes on Sunday morning with an exclusive gospel brunch performance from the artists in attendance. A truly unique experience.
Meanwhile, the RFT folks are producing their annual Rowdy Float Trip festival simultaneously. This event has tons of music. Aside from great sets from Hood, Rhyder, Rich O' Toole, Shaver and Wilkins; there will be an acoustic song swap section featuring over 20 artists ranging from Owen Temple to Jimmy Kaiser to Keith Davis and Zack Walther. There will also be many opportunities for amateurs to shine, as throughout the campgrounds there will be ongoing open mic pavilions. The fun doesn't just happen at the RRB Festival, as here, RFT will have horseshoes, washers, volleyball, giveaways and several meet and greets with the artists.
There are a number of festivals for Texas Music each year, however, only a handful are special (LJT's, Big Ski Trip, RAM). These two festivals happening on the same weekend in New Braunfels are making a bid to join that club and by the looks of things, they will be included in that club soon.
