Today in Music
One day like today... 1992 Willie brought Farm Aid back to Texas this day in 1992. He held it in Irving and it featured regular attendees/Farm Aid board members Neil Young and John Mellencamp.
1956 The movie "Rock Around the Clock" (with Bill Haley) made its premiere in Washington, DC. This is notable because "Rock Around the Clock" is considered the first rock n roll hit. It paved the way for Elvis which in turn paved the way for the Beatles, Stones, and eventually guys like Willie and PG.
1922 Orchestra leader Les Baxter was born in Mexia, Texas. He was Capitol Records top arranger and scored his biggest hit after arranging "Unchained Melody" for the Righteous Brothers. Baxter died in Newport Beach, California, on January 15th, 1996.

Just got back from seeing the guys play at Riverfront Park for the opening day of the CMA Fest. I work downtown and took my lunch break to go see them. When they announced them, it was a really cool moment for me because I saw Randy do one of his first Nashville acoustic shows years ago at this little hole in the wall bar, and here they are playing freaking Fan Fair. I felt like a proud mama! As I expected, most of the crowd didn't know who they were but surprisingly lit up when they started Kiss Me in the Dark.
They played 6 songs: Down and Out, Tonight's not the Night, In My Arms Instead, Buy Myself a Chance, This Time Around, KMITD.
The guys did a great job and I'm sure they made some new fans!!

Very cool for them! (and you, taking your lunch and seeing the RRB!) That's my kind of lunch hour!
