There are many instances in this scene of music that transcend simply having a good time. PFP '08 was definitely one of those times. It was a night of music and magic that I'd put right up there with seeing Kent Finlay perform while weak from chemo....or the closing gospel numbers I've heard at Celebration of Life in Luling. The night was dedicated to the special cause of premature babies and there was a very moving slide show set to the tune of Radney Foster's "Godspeed" that didn't leave a dry eye in the house. 3Curl's live auction was a rousing fundraising success and Brian ran it like he was a seasoned auction house staffer with a little assistance from Justin as auctioneer.

As far as the music...Charley Pride was the surprise guest and he did all his hits...plus the old Clay Walker "My Name's Joe" song. The consumate pro and entertainer...he was the one guy EVERYONE was excited to see. Highlights for me of the early sets were Bleu and Corb Lund. Corb is officially the next big thing in our scene and he's someone people are starting to embrace more and more. Brandon Rhyder performing "Freeze Frame Time" while onstage with all of the preemie "success stories" was incredible. I thought Cory Morrow kind of took the trophy during his set. The closing set was great with Randy/Brady, Wade, Brandon Jenkins, Stoney/Watkins. Lots of new songs were played by Randy and Wade in anticipation of their new releases about to hit the streets. Randy even tried to play a brand new one they just wrote two weeks ago but couldn't remember the words and ended up doing "KMITD". Wade doing "Turn On the Lights" was especially moving at this event. The only thing I didn't dig was Stoney trading lyrics with Jenkins on "Down in Flames" and talking about when they wrote it etc with no mention of Kristen Kelly participating. Found it odd he'd make a point not to mention her on an evening full of such goodwill. Interestingly enough, some dude a table behind us yelled "MODERN DAY DRIFTERS" when they finished...thought it was funny.

Justin thanked Galleywinter and myself in the slide show credits...but I think we should all thank him for being such a genuinely nice guy and having such a great event.

Incredible. Thanks, Brad.

Did any of you get to talk to Charlie? He is a great human being that is for sure. Man, I wish I was there. It would have been great to see him again. It's been 5 years since I have seen him.

Different strokes for different folks I guess, but in my opinion Brandon Rhyder blew Cory Morrow off of the stage. Our whole table was commenting how much better Brandon sounded than the rest of his group. But once again different strokes... I never have been a big Morrow or Kreager fan, and that night just reminded me why tired I also enjoyed Jenkins and Stoney trading versus, go figure. I did come to this conclusion though, I enjoyed PFP a ton more than I did RDR. I guess I'm getting too old to fight the crowds anymore. The REK set was great for the obvious reasons, and because all the young pups scurried to the other stage for Stoney. Had one twenty some odd guy ask me who in the hell is REK? Shocked

Don't misconstrue my friend...Brandon was great as usual...that's why I mentioned him doing FFT...trying to include everyone I thought did well.

I got a few pictures here and there.... too bad my camera went dead before the end. Bah.

Pictures HERE

Absolutely fabulous show. Charley Pride took the cake for me though. What a freaking legend. Awesomeness personified.

The addition of Brandon Jenkins was an excellent choice as well.

I was impressed with Bobby Duncan. I have only seen him twice, but have liked what I have heard both times. Love his voice, very smoothe, but none of his songs stand out to me yet. I did love his cover of 'Let It Ride' by Ryan Adams.

He's definitely worth several listens. I think he's in transition mode from what he was on his first album to some more mature tunes. His first album was written when he was still in his teens and Walt still felt comfortable enough to produce it. The next group of songs from him are very good, and like you guys said, he has an unbelievable voice.

Did anyone else think the air conditioning was just a little too cold???? We froze to death!
I had people come up to me and ask if the Clubhouse show with Brandon Rhyder on Sunday was going to be that cold in the room Smile
I shook my head and said no. In fact, we are just trying to keep it comfortably cool up there during these hot summer months.
All in all, though, it was a GREAT show for a GREAT cause. Glad I went.

Well we absolutly LOVED the show... This was our 3rd year and Justin is just a wonderful wonderful person who is def. LOVED by MANY... Charlie Pride was a treat for us all, wow... I think i was like 10 the last time i saw him... I really liked Josh Abbott, loved Bleu, Bart- good stuff, Bobby-that boy can sing, Good ole' Sonny, Jamie was really good, Corb was pretty good too, Brandon R is always wonderful, first time that i have seen Casey but i love his stuff, Roger and Cory, well ya know they might as well be married... Stoney and Brandon J rocked the house, Wade was awesome he is just the best, and then there is Randy and Brady, the reason I go to shows... I could sit and listen to them play forever...
